𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐮 𝐨𝐲𝐚 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬, 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐮 𝐎𝐲𝐚

Amongst the misty peaks of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, lies the quaint little village of Nanuoya. It is located within Nuwara Eliya District in the Central Province and is situated approximately 8 km away from Nuwara Eliya.
From Nuwara Eliya you can cross the Nanu Oya and turn right at Radella Shortcut Road to reach this small but beautiful waterfall located in the Glassaugh Estate. If the water level in Nanu Oya is low during the rainy season, this waterfall is only a small stream.

Anuradhapura Sacred City Sri Lanka /Ceylon Tourist

Anuradhapura Sacred City

Sri Lanka

North-central Sri Lankan city of Anuradhapura. The Aruvi Aru River runs alongside it. The most well-known of Sri Lanka's ancient fortified towns is Anuradhapura, which is still standing today as an archaeological park and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982. Aside from temples, statues, palaces, and historic drinking-water reservoirs, the nearby area is home to enormous bell-shaped dagobas, which are Buddhist memorial shrines made of little sun-dried bricks. Additionally, the city is home to a historic pipal tree, which many think was formerly a branch of the Bo tree in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India, where Gautama Buddha obtained enlightenment. The Bo tree branch, which may be the oldest tree in existence for which there is any historical record, was planted in Anuradhapura in 245 BCE.

Founded in the fifth century BCE, Anuradhapura served as the Sinhalese capital of Sri Lanka until the eleventh century CE, when invasions from South India compelled the relocation of the city. The city was abandoned and overtaken by jungle until it was rediscovered by the British in the 19th century, at which point it turned into a Buddhist pilgrimage site. In the 1870s, the city started to recover seriously. The modern city, which was mostly relocated in the middle of the 20th century to maintain the location of the ancient capital, is a significant road junction in northern Sri Lanka and is situated across a railway line. The city serves as the administrative center for Sri Lanka's archaeological survey, and tourism plays a big role in the country's economy.

History of Sri Dalada Maligawa.

History of Sri Dalada Maligawa.

The left tooth of Gautama Buddha is kept in veneration at the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The temple, which is visited daily by tens of thousands of local and foreign pilgrims, was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.

The temple, which is highly revered by Buddhists all over the world, is also of immeasurable cultural importance. The building's construction combines the distinctive Kandyan architectural style with that of the shrines known as "Dalada Mandira" that once held the Sacred Tooth Relic in other kingdoms.

The sacred tooth relic of Gautama Buddha was finally found in the holy city of Kandy. During the reign of King Keerthi Sri Meghavarna (Kithsirimevan 301–328), Princess Hemamala and Prince Dantha transported the sacred relic from the ancient Indian city of Kalinga to Sri Lanka. Whatever the location of the capital, it became a symbol of Sri Lankan rulers and was preserved with great care in a unique shrine constructed within the walls of the palace. Ancient capitals including Anuradapura, Pollonnaruwa, Dambadeniya, Yapahuwa, Kurunegala, Kotte, and Gampola still have the remnants of such structures. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, which is located in Kandy, the last Kingdom, remains to be the most revered temple in Buddhism.

SIGIRIYA LION ROCK SRI LANKA/Ceylon Tourist

SIGIRIYA LION ROCK

One of Sri Lanka's most well-known historical sites is Sigiriya. This historic palace and castle complex, which has important archeology and draws thousands of tourists each year, is known by locals as the eighth wonder of the world. This is presumably Sri Lanka's most popular tourist location. The stony plain of Sigiriya, which is composed of lava from an extinct volcano, is 200 meters higher than the forest around it. Visitors are taken aback by the exhibition's exceptional synthesis of nature and creativity.

The palace acquired Sigiriya because of this lion. From the word Sihagri, which means Lion Rock, comes the name Sigiriya. The paintings painted during the Kasyapa era span practically all of Sigiriya's western walls. Today, 18 frescoes are still in existence.

The painting shows a nude lady, who is seen as either Kasyapa's concubine or wife or as a priest administering religious ceremonies. Despite the fact that the identity of the unidentified woman is shown in the mural, this exceptional old painting glorifies female beauty and has a tremendous historical significance.

Mirrored walls are one of Sigiriya's greatest characteristics. The monarch could see his reflection in the past since the technology was so advanced. Inscriptions and poetry created for the visitors of Sigiriya are painted on the mirror walls.
The ninth century is when the first inscription was found. According to the inscription, Sigiriya was a popular tourist location more than a thousand years ago. Painting walls is definitely prohibited today.
